For many years I have been fascinated by one question: Why are we really here? The more I have studied spirituality, near-death experiences, channelings, and ancient wisdom, the more I have come to believe that our lives are far from random. While none of us can truly know what happens before birth, many spiritual teachings describe a beautiful idea, that before coming to Earth, our souls prepare for this journey and create what are often called soul contracts. These agreements are made with the souls who will become our parents, children, spouses, siblings, close friends, and sometimes even the people who challenge us the most. Together, we choose experiences that help us grow, heal, forgive, love, and evolve.
Personally, I don’t believe Earth was ever meant to be easy. I believe it is one of the greatest classrooms for the soul. Some of our lessons arrive through joy, while others come through heartbreak, illness, disappointment, loss, or forgiveness. Often, the people who challenge us the most are the very souls who agreed to help us learn something we could not have learned any other way. Many spiritual traditions also teach that we have shared many lifetimes together, changing roles from one life to the next, yet always meeting again to continue growing.
Although I believe our souls may create a blueprint before birth, I also believe free will is one of the greatest gifts we have been given. Every decision we make creates new possibilities, and our timelines continually shift with those choices. Some teachings suggest that lessons we avoid simply return in another lifetime. My own perspective is slightly different. I believe returning is always a choice made by the soul, not something forced upon us. Growth is never about punishment; it is about expanding our awareness and remembering who we truly are.
One belief that has become increasingly meaningful to me is that many souls currently on Earth may have come from more advanced civilizations that evolved beyond much of the fear, division, and suffering we still experience here. These souls often feel different from childhood, sensing they never quite fit in. Yet they are not here to escape challenges. Like everyone else, they experience illness, loss, financial struggles, broken relationships, and moments of deep questioning. Perhaps these experiences are not meant to break them but to help them remember why they came. I believe many of these souls chose to incarnate during this extraordinary time to help raise humanity’s consciousness and support Earth as it moves toward a higher state of awareness.
One lesson that has stayed with me is that none of us lives only for ourselves. Every smile, every act of kindness, every encouraging word creates ripples we may never see. In the same way, our absence also creates ripples that touch families, friends, and even future generations. We often underestimate how deeply our lives influence the lives of others.
One spiritual teaching that deeply affected me concerns suicide. According to this perspective, choosing to leave this life before its natural conclusion is not part of the original soul agreements made before birth because our lives are so deeply connected with the journeys of others. Whether every detail of this teaching is literally true, I cannot say with certainty. However, it has reminded me of something profoundly important: our lives matter far more than we realize. We may never fully understand how many hearts we touch or how many lives quietly change simply because we were here.
Life can feel unbearably difficult. There are moments when nothing makes sense and seasons when we question why we are here at all. Looking back on my own journey, I have realized that the very experiences I wanted to escape became the ones that transformed me the most. Sometimes our greatest pain becomes our greatest teacher, even though, in the middle of the struggle, it may seem impossible to understand why. If you find yourself in one of those moments, simply allow yourself to be present with it. Ask yourself, “Why is this happening?” as many times, over as many days or weeks as you need, and remain open to the answer. In my experience, guidance often arrives through a dream, a meaningful conversation, a song, a book, repeated numbers, or a quiet inner knowing. I believe our guides honor our free will, and when we sincerely ask for help, they gently begin to reveal the answers. Whatever challenge you are facing today, trust that it may be preparing you for a deeper understanding of yourself.
Whether you believe in soul contracts, divine guidance, reincarnation, or simply that life has meaning, I hope you never forget that everything matters, your life, your presence, the people you love, and the kindness you offer each day. You may never know whose life you have touched or how a simple act of compassion changed someone’s journey. No two people are the same, and there is no perfect life. Not everyone will understand your essence or resonate with your path, and that is perfectly okay. We were never meant to all be alike. Perhaps our greatest purpose is simply to remember who we truly are, continue growing, choose love over fear, and help one another find our way home. After all, none of us walks this journey alone.
