The journey from experiencing abuse or trauma to manifesting a better life is one many individuals undertake. Even after leaving home at a young age, many continue to face various forms of abuse. It may not be immediately apparent that the patterns learned early in life contribute to the continuation of this abuse. Children often absorb the mental atmosphere surrounding them, learning fear and abuse as norms. As they grow, these patterns persist, repeating cycles of negativity. The realization that one has the power to change this dynamic may not come easily. Self-criticism and a lack of self-worth often accompany experiences of abuse, leading to a cycle of negative thinking.
Growing up, my childhood was veiled in an atmosphere of verbal abuse, a heavy cloud that seemed to settle upon each of us, the children, but particularly targeting my mother. Despite witnessing her resilience in absorbing these negativities, I couldn’t understand how she managed to tolerate it. I promised myself that I would never allow such toxicity. Yet, as life unfolded, I found myself mirroring her actions in my own marriage. It was puzzling to see that I, in fact, lived the patterns I wanted to break free from; apparently, they were deeply rooted within me. Despite my conscious desires for a different reality, I unknowingly gravitated towards familiar echoes of the past. It was a profound lesson, teaching me that even amidst difficulties, there lie lessons and opportunities for growth and transformation.
It’s essential not to view past experiences with shame but rather as part of the picture of life. Each experience, no matter how painful, contributes to personal growth and understanding. Understanding that the past exists only in the mind allows for a shift in perspective. By focusing on the present moment, individuals can begin to take conscious charge of their thoughts and words.
Changing thought patterns may seem daunting, but it’s crucial to recognize that the mind is not in control; individuals are. The Higher Self or inner wisdom guides this process. Taking command of one’s thoughts involves acknowledging negative patterns and consciously choosing to redirect them. It’s not about fighting thoughts but rather acknowledging their presence and choosing a different way of thinking.
Imagine thoughts as drops of water; repeated negative thoughts accumulate, creating an ocean of negativity. By choosing positive thoughts and affirmations, individuals can change the landscape of their minds, creating a more positive and supportive inner environment. Trusting in one’s inner guidance and asking empowering questions can aid in decision-making and foster self-love and acceptance.
Following one’s inner voice or intuition can lead to profound personal transformation. By embracing new ways of thinking and exploring spiritual teachings, individuals can break free from old patterns and embrace a life of purpose and meaning. Though the journey may not always be easy, each step forward brings individuals closer to a life filled with joy, love, and fulfillment.
